Hi all :) I saw 'Mary Poppins' on Sunday with Scarlett in it. She was amazing! I wanted to see Gavin Lee as Bert, but Adam did a great job so I was happy. :D

But there's something that she did that made me wonder... When the Bird Woman first appears on the stage as a passer-byer, Mary Poppins freezes in her tracks and stares at her in surprise or even nervously. I was in the third row (how, I don't know lol! Got lucky :D ) so I saw it pretty clearly on her face. Do you think this hints that they know each other or she's related to Mary Poppins somehow? Maybe I'm reading too deeply into it, but I found it kinda puzzling, especially since the Bird Woman looked at her face, chuckled, and went on her way.

Oh, that's interesting! Each actress does seem to interpret Mary different, and develop their own backstory... I've seen Scarlett as Mary once, but that was in London so she's probably changed a lot of her performance.

I like to think that Mary knows that there's something special about the Bird Woman that regular people don't know. But related? That hadn't occurred to me, but it's not impossible since in the books Mary has loads of cousins and relations all over the place.

Ha ha ha, yeah she did have a lot of family in the books.

My friend had the same opinion that Mary understands the Bird Woman is special/magical/powerful. Maybe it's like in the fairy tales where the beggar woman is always a powerful witch in disguise who blesses people who show kindness and curse those who don't. Still, Scarlett made Mary look pretty anxious and deeply sad. I was very surprised and impressed because I love to look for that kind of stuff.

Yes, I think they know each other. Actually, in some point, doesn't Bert whisper to the Bird Woman pointing to Mary Poppins, and she (bird woman) looks up and smile/chuckle?

I miss Gavin Lee's Bert. I saw the show shortly after Adam took over the role, and he didn't wink at the audience when he was leaving after he shook hands with Mr. Banks. Those small touches really made me smile when I saw Gavin on the stage.

I think I saw that too... But I was so close to the stage that it was hard to see everything that was going on the stage. Plus I was focused on Mary when she was around the Bird Woman after that look I saw to see if I could read anything else behind it.

Yeah, Gavin's Bert seems really, really energetic and fun. I wanted to see him so badly, but I just missed him it seems. Adam was more reserved on the stage, but maybe he'll loosen up once he feels more confident in the role. :)

WHOA awesome point of subtext for Scarlett! And that is so fascinating because in my in-progress Mary fic, I DO make them related, but I won't tell what! But that's great, i love how they keep mixing it up!
